Mosquito Control Program

Warmer weather brings an increase in mosquitoes. In recent years, this has become more concerning due to the spread of West Nile Virus.

Mosquito Spraying (Opt-In Program)

Residents may request mosquito spraying for their area.

Mosquito spraying typically begins in mid-April.

Eliminate Standing Water

The most effective way to control mosquitoes is to remove places where they can breed. Mosquitoes need standing water for 5–7 days to hatch. Even small amounts of water—such as in birdbaths, clogged gutters, buckets, or containers—can support mosquito larvae.

Residents are encouraged to regularly check their property and remove any standing water.

Manage Water That Cannot Be Drained

If standing water cannot be eliminated, stirring the water every 3–4 days can help prevent mosquito larvae from developing.

The City’s Public Works Department also provides larvicide pellets for these situations.

Protect Yourself from Mosquito Bites

You can reduce your risk of mosquito bites by:
  • Using insect repellent, especially products containing DEET
  • Wearing long sleeves and long pants outdoors
  • Limiting outdoor activity during peak mosquito times, such as dawn and dusk
